KU Leuven offers a wide range of bachelor and master programs covering most fields of humanities, social sciences, medical sciences, and science and technology. Our research covers the same fields, on an international level. We have about 45000 students spread over several locations in Flanders.

The University Library supports the information needs of students and researchers. Among other things, it takes care of the digitisation of relevant material to protect it and to render it more accessible and usable. OCR and related techniques are crucial to obtain our objectives.

The KU Leuven has participated or is participating in the following projects and memberships:

  • Europeana (Cloud, Photography, Libraries, Inside, Collection day)
  • Flandrica
  • Succeed (http://succeed-project.eu)
  • Internal digitisation projects (Bible of Anjou, old prints, nineteenth century statistical material, …)
  • RICH project (Reflectance Imaging for Cultural Heritage, illuminare.be/rich_project
